Mugs and Tumblers Printing

Before reading this article you should know the meaning of the following words:

Decal – design prepared on special paper for transfer onto another surface.

Transfer paper– a paper that is coated with a preparation for transferring a design to another surface.

If you are looking for an exceptional gift idea, why not try giving your friends and family custom-made mugs? You can print a photo or custom style on a mug for everyone you know. While there are many online printing business that can do that for you, you may have additional creative design if you create them yourself. While it might appear tricky, it’s really fairly easy to try and do once you have the correct materials.

  1. Find an applicable digital photo. You can either take one from your camera or scan a photo into your computer.
  2. Open your photo in your image editing software. Flip the image so it will appear correctly when it’s on the mug. The best and easy way to do this is to measure your mug with measurement tape, then resize the photo to match those dimensions.
  3. Resize the photo therefore it will match on your mug.
  4. Correct any flaws along with your photo. Printers tend to create pictures darker than they seem on screen, therefore you may need to brighten it or adjust the contrast.
  5. Load your photo transfer paper into your printer. Insert the transfer paper so the glossy side will have the printed image on it.
  6. Adjust your printer preferences. Most printers have a menu for transfer paper. If yours does, choose that.
  7. Print out your decal. After each printing, examine the photo to make sure it looks right. You will have to adjust the photo before you get it exactly how you wish it. Don’t touch the photo before the ink has enough time to dry.
  8. Cut the photo out of the transfer paper. Excess paper can create it difficult to transfer.
  9. Prepare your mug. This works best with a white mug with no surface texture or particularization. Wash the mug, and allow it to dry before making an attempt to transfer the photo.
  10. Place the transfer paper in a bowl of water. Take it out once the glossy sheet begins to peel.
  11. Peel the backing layer off. Do this carefully therefore you do not rip the photo.
  12. Place the decal on the mug. Firmly press down on the decal, rubbing out any wrinkles or air bubbles. Don’t allow the transfer paper to move around on the mug, as that will smudge the photo.
  13.  Peel the transfer sheet off the mug. If the photo remains stuck to the sheet, stick it back to the mug and press down firmly.
  14. Spray the mug with fixative spray. Allow it to dry completely.

  • If you do not have a printer or photo editing software, take your transfer paper and digital photos to any printing business near your location. They will print your photos on the paper for you.
  • Go to any printing business that offers mug printing if you don’t want to make it by yourself.

Which is better? Dye or Pigment Ink?

When starting your own printing business you should know the difference between Dye and Pigment Inks.

Dye ink and pigment ink are fairly similar because they both used inkjet cartridges. The main difference between the two is that dye inks are designed to be absorbed into the paper when printing, whereas pigment inks are designed to rest on top of the paper in tiny particles, that don’t absorbed into the page. Each has its benefits and drawbacks. Let us see the few main issues that highlight their differences.

One of the most advantages of dye-based inks is that they’re usually less costly to manufacture, and thus, cheap to purchase. For everyday printing for non-essential materials, dye-based inks have an advantage, as the extra cost of pigment-based inks may not be worth the difference.

The Print Guide- Choosing the right coating!

The right coating will help keep the digital photo or add a creative dimension. The results can typically look best on coated paper because the hard, nonporous surface of coated paper holds the coating on the top of the paper instead of having it disappear by being absorbed into the paper. Even when attempting to attain an overall matte effect, a gloss coated sheet is typically the simplest paper choice and the gloss on the paper can give superior printability. In general, uncoated papers don’t profit pretty much in appearance from coatings or varnishes, though either can help prevent rubbing in areas of heavy ink coverage. Matte or satin varnishes or coatings are the best decisions for uncoated stocks.
